As discussed before, the versions of Ableton Live 9 and after have the ability to turn any isolated audio clip (isolated drums, isolated melody, and isolated harmonies) into a MIDI file. Last time we discussed this technique for beat making, and this week we'll highlight the audio melody to midi function.
This user has used this function in numerous ways. I was creating a bass line for a track in a movie I was hired to do. I thought it would be cool to have an organ bass double my recorded bass line.
Boom!
I had to correct a few slight incorrect notes because of articulation idiosyncrasies of the bass guitar, but I easily had an organ bass doubling my bass line.
There are just so many uses for this! More on Audio to MIDI next time.
