As discussed in our last log: One of the most revolutionary tools to show up in a DAW in recent history is the “Audio to MIDI” function in Ableton Live. Any clip of audio can be converted to a MIDI file just by right clicking on it. Today we'll discuss drum clips!
The software flawlessly converts any soloed out drum clip or track to transients, and then applies drum samples to the transients. Usually the default samples that Ableton applies aren't the most desirable, but that's easily dealt with.
I routinely now use loops or samples as a starting point for beat creation. Having an extensive loop library can give you a great starting point or template for any beat creation scenario, instead of building a beat from the ground up. Think of the possibilities!
